The Poem Of The Body

Motion.Captured

My first collaboration with choreographer and dancer Deliah Seefluth, The Poem Of The Body deals with the boundary between restriction and freedom.

By attaching motion capture controllers to the solo dancer, information is processed live through Max/MSP, triggering broken spoken sounds with her body and allowing her to be intimately involved in the development and obfuscation of its meaning. The way the broken words (source poem by Fred M-G) are actually triggered change with each line, meaning Deliah is searching for the right movement which will allow her body to read. The spoken sounds morph with piano - first triggering a  recording of me score reading the source poem, and then through the introduction of live piano.

As the piece develops, so does the complex relation between movement, sound and semiotics.
